The Philosophy behind Holistic Therapy is to be aware of and assess the total body to seek reasons and solutions for dysfunction or imbalance in the body. It is helpful to consider a persons: diet, stress level, physical activities and sleep patterns; in addition to prior accidents, injuries and surgeries. Bodywork sessions are customized to meet the needs of each client.

The Orthopedic Massage Program

The National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB) announced today a partnership with the Benjamin Institute to launch a Specialty Certificate Program in Orthopedic Massage.

The program has two key components:
  1. 1)  Benjamin Institute Orthopedic Massage Courses (10 courses totaling 160 hours)
  2. 2)  NCBTMB Specialty Exam (100 questions, available online)
This 160-hour live program offers participants a comprehensive training that teaches detailed assessment and treatment techniques that address the most commonly injured structures
throughout the body. The Specialty Orthopedic Massage Program includes ten 2 1⁄2 day live trainings, including client injury assessment clinics, as well as an intensive weekend on communication skills to support success in your practice.

The next available program start date is December 8, 2017 in Medford, Massachusetts and continues through April 2020. More information regarding this program is available here: http://benbenjamin.com/pdfs/OrthoSpCertNCBTMB.pdf. Most participants complete the program in its entirety within 2 1⁄2 years.

“I have wanted to offer a Specialty Certificate Program just like this for over 20 years,” explained Ben Benjamin, PhD, Founder, Benjamin Institute. “I am thrilled to be partnering with NCBTMB to bring this series to the massage and bodywork community. These courses contain the skills and knowledge I believe will provide better, safer outcomes for the clients of any practitioner who works with pain and injury conditions.”

After completing the Benjamin Institute’s Orthopedic Massage Program and passing the NCBTMB Specialty Exam, participants will earn a NCBTMB Specialty Certificate in Orthopedic Massage. In addition, participants will receive a letter of verification outlining the education and training they have received, which may be provided to stakeholders, such as employers. The fee for the NCBTMB Specialty Exam is $95.

“All of us at NCBTMB are thrilled to continue the release of meaningful specialty certificate programs to empower our profession with the education and training required to succeed in some of the most rewarding workplace settings,” commented Donna Sarvello, VP of Educational Support, NCBTMB. “This particular program is unique as it provides personalized instruction and supervision from Dr. Benjamin, a nationally-recognized educator who has been dedicated to this profession since 1963. Both the educational program and corresponding Specialty Exam will further therapists’ understanding of chronic pain, injuries, and their treatments.”
